Germicidal linear light bulbs pair with a compatible UV ballast and emit ultraviolet-C (UV-C) light to inactivate bacteria, viruses, and molds. These straight, tube-shaped light bulbs have bases on both ends and produce little or no visible light. Also called UVC bulbs, germicidal light bulbs install in HVAC systems, filtration systems, and similar equipment to purify air, water, and surfaces. They are used for applications such as sterilizing instruments and preventing contamination of food and beverages. Caution: UV-C light can harm skin and eyes. Bulbs should be shielded or other precautions should be taken to prevent people and animals from direct exposure to UV-C light.
