Polyurethane tread on aluminum core wheels weigh less and provide more resistance to rust and corrosion than wheels with a polyurethane tread and iron or steel core. They are used on carts, racks, and similar equipment in environments where the wheels will not be exposed to shock forces, heavy loads, obstructions, poor floor conditions, or standing loads, such as research laboratories, hospitals, food-service facilities, schools, and bakeries.

These wheels have polyurethane treads that provide more resistance to abrasion and chemicals than rubber treads.
