Pneumatic wheels have tires that are filled with air to cushion loads against shock and vibration. They provide a quieter, more cushioned ride than semipneumatic and flat-free wheels, but they are more susceptible to punctures and require more maintenance to keep the tires filled to the correct pressure. They are suitable for areas where sharp debris isn't present.

Pneumatic, semipneumatic, and flat-free wheels have air-filled, foam-filled, or solid-rubber tires that absorb more shock and vibration and produce less noise than standard wheels. These wheels are used on carts, trucks, dollies, and other equipment that will be transporting fragile or vibration-sensitive loads in laboratory, medical, or aerospace facilities. They are also installed on wheelbarrows and other equipment that will be used for moving loads over rough or uneven surfaces in outdoor areas and industrial facilities.
