Hard-back blades are used for making straight cuts and are used when high force or pressure is applied to the blade as material moves past the blade, such as when cutting hard wood, mild metal, and large workpieces. Hard back blades are usually used at slower speeds than flexible back blades. Carbon steel band saw blades are used in wood-cutting band saws that have a higher speed than metal-cutting band saws.
